About a week after I stopped taking it I had a wicked flare. Fever, more neurological symptoms, totally wiped out, and horrible joint pain. It's been a little over a week since I started again and I actually managed to finally get Christmas down AND cook dinner. Wow, right? I can't say for sure it was the plaquenil, but it does make me hopeful. Fever is found among people who take Plaquenil, especially for people who are female, 60+ old, have been taking the drug for 1 month, also take medication Methotrexate, and have Pain. Some diseases treated with Plaquenil include Lupus, which causes fever, rashes, skin problems, and other symptoms. Rheumatoid arthritis, a condition that causes pain and swelling in the joints of your hands and feet. Sjögren’s syndrome, which causes dry eyes and dry mouth. Plaquenil lowers your immune system’s ability to cause inflammation.

Today, it is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, some symptoms of lupus, childhood arthritis (or juvenile idiopathic arthritis) and other autoimmune diseases. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria.

  5. You can have vaccinations, including live vaccines such as yellow fever and shingles, while you're on hydroxychloroquine. Even though hydroxychloroquine is an anti-malarial drug, don't assume it will protect you if you're travelling to an area where there's a risk of malaria.

Hi Everyone, I went to my Rheumatologist last week. I take these for the arthritis associated with my lupus. If you have any particular questions, I would be happy to answer them. The chance of damage to the eyes with plaquenil is extremely slim. I have been taking hydroxychloroquine which is the generic of plaquenil for the past three years.
