Can you just stop taking plaquenil

It's used to treat and prevent malaria infection, and to reduce symptoms and progression of autoimmune diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and others. Malaria is spread by mosquitoes, which transmit the parasites that cause the infection, usually in tropical and subtropical parts of the world.

Hydroxychloroquine sulfatr alcohol Reasons to take plaquenil

Plaquenil is one of those meds you can just stop. My rheumy told me to take a months rest from it once. I asked him about 'tapering' and he said "No - just stop it - and resume after a month." Plaquenil is one of those meds you can just stop. My rheumy told me to take a months rest from it once. I asked him about 'tapering' and he said "No - just stop it - and resume after a month." I did - with no ill effects. Had to stop taking Plaquenil. I recently decided to stop taking Plaquenil because I was having constant chest pains even more so than I usually have due to Lupus. Since I have not taken it my chest feels so much better which is odd because chest pain is not listed as a side effect.

For example, it may be combined with an antibiotic to treat chronic Q-fever, which humans usually catch from farm animals or raw milk. Plaquenil is used to treat other types of infections too.

  2. Will plaquenil help lupus when you have sjogrens
  3. I can't believe you were told to stop taking plaquenil after only 6 months since it can take up to one YEAR to achieve full benefits! I don't know much about any sort of withdrawal but if I were you I'd start taking it again. I'd also have your thyroid checked. I'm hypothyroid and take levo along with he plaquenil.

There is no way you can just stop taking steroids 3 days before. It can make you very sick, even kill you. Besides that, 3 days will not make any difference in the inflamation they would see. They want to see what is going on right now while you are doing what you normally do. Plaquenil does not need to be stopped either from what my gastro who is excellent said. SHe didnt even want me to stop my aspirin. It's ok to stop plaquenil without weaning, but I do recommend that if you feel you can wait til Monday, wait, and talk with your rheumy then. I felt that plaquenil wasn't helping, and was causing digestive problems for me, so with my dr. ok, I went off it. The drugs are to slow the slide even more but they never stop it and nothing can reverse it. And let me clarify the eye issue. Since you don't have a definite diagnosis yet, the chances of you becoming blind form taking Plaquenil are much smaller than the chance your disease will blind you.
